ELINOR STECKER-OREL

Elinor Stecker-Orel got her first camera (a Baby Brownie) when she was about five years old, and she’s been taking pictures ever since. Her photographs have appeared in books and magazines, as well as on the Internet. Her work had been exhibited in group and one-person shows and is housed held in many private collections. Elinor formerly was senior editor at Popular Photography magazine, and she has written hundreds of articles on photography, video, and Photoshop for various publications, including National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times, Time, U.S.A Today, and Woman's Day. As the Special Effects Diva, she writes about creative photography for the adorama.com website. An expert in Photoshop, she is the author of eight how-to books on photography and digital imaging.

Elinor has been expanding her photographic techniques by printing on various, unconventional surfaces as well as incorporating mixed-media techniques. Her other passions are creating artist books, altered books, and artist trading cards.

An associate dean of the New York Institute of Photography, Elinor writes the textbook material as well as teaching photography and Photoshop. She also has taught photography at the Westchester Art Workshop (a division of the State University of New York) and the Hudson River Photography Workshop. She leads arts-and-crafts workshops and has written extensively on photo crafts for www.takegreatpictures.com. In addition to lecturing, Elinor judges local and international imaging competitions. Articles about her and her work have appeared in After Capture, Color, Rangefinder, American Cinematographer, and Bound & Lettered magazines. She has appeared as a guest authority on CNN, Fox, and on local radio and cable TV.
