PROGRAMS FOR ALL ARTISTS

A New Look at Composition

An exceptional program for both photographers and painters, in which they‘ll see how following the "rules" can improve their pictures and when the rules can be abandoned.

There Ain’t No Tin in Tintypes

The fascinating early history of photography, from the camera obscura to the dry-plate process— the experimentations . . . the challenges . . . the wonder . . . the successesI will also bring samples of photographs made by these remarkable early processes. This should be a "must" program for anyone interested in art as well as photography.

Quintessences

An audience favorite, this presentation is full of humor as well as having serious content. It is about art criticism, but the approach is unique. It begins with photographs by the avant garde Hungarian photographer known as Ronile while I read the gallery notes that accompanied an exhibit of her photographs. The photographs are actually poor, but the pretentiously written gallery notes praise their virtues and the nuances of Ronile's technique. The audience comes to realize that critics often read meanings into images that may have no relation to what the artist had in mind. The program will make you consider how remarks by a highly regarded critic can influence our evaluation of a photograph.
